JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)s Commission I Tubagus Hasanuddin has said his commission has received a bill on National Security and will discuss it early next week.

"We do need a clear legal umbrella to set up a National Security Council, and decide on the national security situation such as military emergency, civilian order, or normal," he said that here Saturday.

The bill on the National Security (Kamnas) also covers issues on regional intelligence, decision makers in handling problems such as food crisis and epidemic.

The Parliament received a draft of the academic paper and the Bill on National Security (at the initiative of the government) on June 16, 2011, for deliberation. All factions have decided that the Bill on National Security should be discussed by the Houses Commission I.

"The draft was sent to the Commission I on June 18. The Commission I has decided that starting next week, Monday, June 27, we will invite experts, prominent figures, NGO activists, academicians, the press and otehrs to give input and express their opinions for the deliberation of the Bill to become comprehensive law for the sake of the nation and the country," he said.

Earlier, Defense Minister Purnomo Yugisantoro said that under a new bill, Indonesia hopes to introduce a range of reforms to its Security Council (Watannas) to improve coordination among various state institutions in facing various threats. The government is seeking to improve efficiency in facing these threats, Yusgiantoro said.
